Ireland’s 2025 Davis Cup Tie Confirmed

Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs draw confirmed as Ireland will face Saudi Arabia in February 2025

After a narrow defeat to Tunisia in a highly competitive and exciting World Group II tie last month, Ireland will now face Saudi Arabia, away in the World Group II Playoffs in February 2025. The tie in February will take place on either 31st January – 1st February or 1st – 2nd February.

Tennis Ireland’s Interim Performance Director, Cian Blake, said after the announcement:

“The team is eager to get back out there after the Tunisia tie this year. Facing Saudi Arabia presents a new challenge, but I have full confidence that Conor and the squad will embrace the opportunity and give their absolute best for their country, as they consistently do.”

Ireland had some memorable moments in September when Michael Agwi secured his first win for Ireland in the Davis Cup, as well as defeating Tunisia’s top player and world no. 220, Aziz Dougaz in straight sets, bringing the tie to 2-2 before Ireland eventually lost 3-2.

Team Captain, Conor Niland said this afternoon:

We as a team are very excited to get a chance to compete against Saudi Arabia in February. We are looking to build on some good, competitive experiences from this year in the 2025 campaign. We will as always do everything we can go get a win for Ireland

Ireland is now ranked 52 and Saudia Arabia currently stand at 75 in the world.

The Irish will look to secure a win to earn a place in the World Group II draw for September 2025 and avoid relegation to Europe Group III.

With a young team nominated, Saudia Arabia were runners up in the Asia/Oceania Group III, behind group winners Thailand, hosted in Jordan in June of this year to be placed in the World Group II playoffs.

More details on the World Group II Playoffs tie including the venue and ticket information will be available over the coming months
