Ireland’s top tennis players will get the chance to compete against professional tour players on home soil this Summer when the Irish Open returns to Carrickmines.
It will be the Open’s first staging since Covid, and after a five year break the AIG supported event will run from Tuesday 6th August to Sunday 11th August. Qualifying will be played on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th August.
Prizemoney of €15,000 for both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments will attract both Irish and international players working their way up the world rankings and the top Irish players will hope to emulate Peter Bothwell and Georgia Drummy’s successes. Bothwell won the Men’s Singles in 2018 while Drummy claimed the Women’s crown in 2019.
Sinead Lohan, who is just back from representing Ireland at the Billie Jean King Cup in Moldova, and Ammar Elamin who is coming off a great win at the 2024 Irish Close Tour 1000 at Donnybrook at the weekend, were in attendance today for the launch.
Speaking about the event, Kevin Quinn, CEO of Tennis Ireland said:
